Sustainability — Our Environmental & Community Commitments

Sustainability & Community Impact

A Vow to Protect and Nurture the Soul of Indonesia

The breathtaking beauty of Indonesia’s marine ecosystems and the rich cultural heritage of its communities are the very heart of the Wellness Cruise Indonesia experience. We recognize that we are privileged guests in these pristine environments, from the vibrant coral gardens of Raja Ampat to the ancient volcanic landscapes of the Komodo archipelago. With this privilege comes a profound responsibility to protect these natural wonders and to empower the local communities who are their traditional custodians. Our sustainability policy is not an afterthought; it is a core pillar of our operational philosophy, integrated into every aspect of our journeys.

Environmental Commitments: Preserving Paradise

Our goal is to leave the environments we visit in a better condition than we found them. We implement strict, measurable policies onboard all partner vessels.

  • Zero Single-Use Plastics: We have a complete ban on single-use plastic bottles, straws, and amenities. Guests are provided with reusable water bottles, and all water is produced onboard through reverse osmosis filtration systems.
  • Reef-Safe Practices: We provide all guests with reef-safe, biodegradable sunscreen and toiletries to prevent harmful chemicals from damaging delicate coral ecosystems. We also enforce strict ‘no-touch’ policies during all snorkeling and diving activities.
  • Waste Management & Offsetting: All waste is meticulously sorted onboard and disposed of responsibly at designated facilities on land. We are actively developing a carbon offset program, partnering with an accredited Indonesian organization to invest in reforestation projects in Borneo and Sumatra to offset the carbon footprint of each cruise.
  • Sustainable Sourcing: At least 70% of the produce used by our chefs is sourced from local organic farms and sustainable fisheries in Bali, Labuan Bajo, and Sorong, reducing food miles and supporting the local economy.

Community Empowerment: A Shared Future

We believe that sustainable tourism must create tangible benefits for local communities. Our approach is rooted in partnership, respect, and economic empowerment.

  • Local Employment: We mandate a minimum of 80% Indonesian crew on all our partner vessels, with a preference for hiring from the local communities of Eastern Indonesia. We invest in training programs to help our crew advance their careers in the luxury maritime industry.
  • The ‘Juara Future’ Foundation: A portion of every cruise booking is donated to our foundation, managed by our parent company, Juara Holding Group. The foundation currently funds two key projects: a plastic waste collection and recycling initiative in a village near Labuan Bajo, and a program to support traditional weaving artisans in the Flores highlands.
  • Authentic & Respectful Cultural Exchange: When we visit local villages, we do so in small, respectful groups. We partner directly with village elders to ensure our visits are welcome and provide direct economic benefit through the purchase of authentic, locally made handicrafts and contributions to community funds.
  • Supporting Local Conservation: We provide financial and logistical support to local ranger patrols in Komodo National Park and contribute to community-based marine conservation initiatives in Raja Ampat, empowering local people to protect their own natural resources.

Our commitment to sustainability is an ongoing journey of learning and improvement. We are constantly seeking new ways to minimize our impact and maximize our positive contribution, ensuring that the magic of Indonesia can be experienced by generations to come. Our policies are reviewed annually to align with global best practices and the specific needs of the ecosystems and communities we serve.
